The Broadway Rose Theatre, which has been upgrading their space with a new stage, production rooms, and rehearsal spaces is back with their annual gala, Live and in Living Color! for 2022.

Before the final nail and brush stroke is made the theater hosted a pre-show party with party boards, live painting, a wine pull, creative activities, colorful nibbles and a a two part show.

The main feature of the event was performed with four fantastic actors and singers, starring Evan Aldrete, Jennifer Goldsmith, Michael Hammerstrom, and Malia Tippets. With music direction and piano by Darcy White.

Photolucida Portfolio Review Event Day Two

“Photolucida is an arts nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is to provide platforms that expand, inspire, educate and connect the regional, national, and international photography community.”

“PORTFOLIO REVIEWS FESTIVAL
Every other April, an international set of photographers and reviewers gather in Portland, Oregon for a five-day celebration of photography that includes lectures, workshops, and exhibition collaborations. Intensive portfolio reviews are at the heart of the festival. Reviewers are selected for their experience, involvement, and commitment to advancing the work of emerging and mid-career artists. Over the years, many participants have made contacts that have led directly to exhibitions, publications, and sales, in addition to receiving useful critiques.

By providing a venue for in-depth, informed, and supportive dialogue between photographers, gallery owners, curators, publishers, editors, and consultants, Photolucida promotes the culture of photography locally, nationally, and internationally. The next Portfolio Reviews event will take place April 21-23, 2022 in Portland, Oregon.” from About | Photolucida

Rhythm on the Rails Writing Retreat

All aboard!

Rhythm on the Rails participant enjoying the expansive river views via Business Class.

I’ve never been on a train. So when I had heard about a one day writing retreat by train from Portland’s Union Train Station to Seattle’s King Street Train Station I was really intrigued. The train went by way of the Amtrak Cascades route which is one the most beautiful train routes in the PNW and arguably the best in the nation. Just the type of place you’d want to be tucked in to work on a writing project, or at lease in my case, to write my wedding vows uninterrupted by my dogs and routine of daily life.

Johnnie Mazzacco is the brain’s behind the idea. Formed from her own experience of taking the train and finding the inspiring bubble the train provides decided to transport groups of writers to and from Seattle with a loose structure based on isolated time to write combined with a social lunch and artistic scavenger hunt at the Seattle Art Museum.

If you are looking to get yourself into a unique head space for writing her next retreat is in June. You can learn more here Rhythm on the Rails. And for fun, the reason I travel can be summed up in Jason Silva’s Why do we travel? video.
