Day One of the Solar Culture Conference

Solar Culture held their 2024 retreat on the coastline of El Salvador at Balancé Yoga & Surf, facing the Pacific and the La Bocana surf break. 

Experts in quantum and circadian biology presented the latest research during the 2-day conference by thought provoking educational doctors, practitioners and passionate leaders in the field.

Day one presenters were creator Kiera Lea followed by Dr. Sam Soete, Roudy Nassif, Dr. Alexis Cowan and Kelsey Dexter MD hosted by MC Jeff Gibson.

The main topics of the event were light as medicine, the relationship between light and biology and how our biology and our environment work together (and how it doesn’t). 

Continuing the conference on day two presentations by experts, doctors, practitioners and passionate leaders in the field such as Dr. Francisco Gutierrez, Michael Clusk, Dr. Sara Pugh, Dr. Olivia Lesslar, Sarah Doheny and Mikayla Sprung on the latest research and findings, and shared their experiences and journeys of quantum and circadian biology.

Attendees were able to sit or stand grounded (harvesting photons) to the volcanic charge of the space while the 13 degree latitude provided excellent UVA and UVB sunshine (building redox).

For our client HRAI, we created new headshots on-site at Skamania Lodge in Washington during their company retreat using the strobe flash headshot photography style with a natural landscape as the background for these corporate headshot sessions.

Behind the scenes look at our lighting set up for shooting the Historical Research Associates Inc.’s new company team headshots on-site at Skamania Lodge.

For our setup we used at single strobe flash head with a 5ft umbrella modifier using the natural background of the Skamania Lodge gardens, a single white V-flat and flag modifier card, our posing stool and apple boxes.

Our strobe flash was set so we could achieve a well lit subject and natural light background. As the light changed throughout the sessions we would change our camera and strobe flash settings to match.

We photographed the new member of the legal team at Janet Hoffman and Associates law firm on site at their office in downtown Portland, Oregon.

For the new headshots of each lawer for the team at Janet Hoffman and Associates, we matched the background of the existing headshots previously made by another photographer. Using the same background can provide consistency to all the headshots without having to make new ones for each staff member. 

For our set up we used a 5ft umbrella with a diffuser on a b10 strobe flash head for the headshots. We lit the subject so that the background environment of the city during the day would come through. Using the same equipment will allow for future sessions to blend seamlessly with the photos already made.

History of the Conference

“Lewis & Clark Law School and the Animal Legal Defense Fund have a rich history hosting and supporting animal law conferences for students, practitioners, scholars and activists. In 1982, the Animal Legal Defense Fund hosted its first animal law conference in San Francisco, California and thereafter held annual conferences until 1992. In 1993, a small contingent of Lewis & Clark Law School Student Chapter Members interested in animal welfare hosted a one-day symposium addressing wildlife issues. From that humble beginning, The Animal Law Conference at Lewis & Clark Law School started its tradition of hosting an annual academic conference to address the subject of animal law.

Over the years, the annual Animal Law Conference at Lewis & Clark continued to grow in size and popularity with the support and shared vision of the Animal Legal Defense Fund and the Center for Animal Law Studies, which was founded at Lewis & Clark Law School in 2008. At the same time, the Animal Legal Defense Fund continued to host animal law conferences every three years, aptly called “The Future of Animal Law.” In 2013 we joined forces to create “The Animal Law Conference,” co-presented by the Animal Legal Defense Fund and the Center for Animal Law Studies.

As an annual event, the conference alternates between Portland, Oregon, and another city each year. The organizers of the Conference hope that by hosting the event in different parts of the country, it will become accessible to those who may not be able to travel to Portland, Oregon. With this exciting merger, the Animal Law Conference is the preeminent event in the field of animal law today.” —Website

High-end Professional Luxury Custom Headshots for Chris

Chris was in the market for new high-end luxury business professional headshots for his website. We create a custom headshot package that included headshots and speaking photos.

We moved through 3 different outfits and two background colors using strobe flash photography to make these headshots at an on-site location provided by the client.

We used two strobe heads, the main light had a 3 foot umbrella modifier and for the fill/hair/background light we use our largest modifier umbrella, 7 ft. In addition to our lighting set up we had bounce cards and flags to add and subtract light where we needed it.
