Poet Diane Corson

I did this fantastic project roughly titled The Poet Photo Project where I would photograph Poets in their creative space that was making work in Portland, Oregon during Sept 2015 – April 2017. One of the last portraits I made for the project was my 25th Poet, Diane Corson.

“Though my path to Chinese medicine was a rather circuitous one, it was my relationship with the natural world that initially drew me to the medicine.” –Angie Jackson LAC The Road Home

The early Chinese believed the human body had been formed from vital breaths that resembled the wind or external breaths of the universe. They also believed that the skin of the body served as an interface between the breaths of the internal world and the external breaths of the universe. It functioned as a mobile, permeable boundary allowing the movement of substances, energies, and signs outward from the body, or inward from the larger world.” –Angie Jackson LAC The Road Home

Health was not the absence of disease, but the presence of balance: in the internal world, the external world, and the relationship between the two.

In the internal world, the vital breaths flow along twelve main pathways, or meridians, which run throughout the body. The meridians are connected to and influenced by the musculoskeletal system, the organ systems, the emotions, and the mind. The flow of vital breaths in the meridians is also influenced by: the climate, the seasons, and the physical environment of the external world.

My work as a Chinese medicine practitioner involves assessing the movement of these vital breaths, understanding internal and external stressors that influence their movement, and inserting needles in points along the meridians and prescribing herbs to remind the body of its ability to both adapt to these stressors and restore balance.” –Angie Jackson LAC The Road Home
